17 Thanksgiving Desserts That Save Me From Making the Same Pie Every Year

By: kseniaprints · Updated: Oct 5, 2026 · This post may contain affiliate links.

I love a good Thanksgiving pie, but I have to admit, making the same one every year can start to feel a little too predictable.

At some point, I want something that still feels festive but surprises everyone at the dessert table. That’s usually when I start looking beyond the pie pan for cakes, bars, puddings, crisps, and other sweets that can hold their own next to the turkey and stuffing.

I'd make these 17 Thanksgiving desserts when I want to keep the holiday tradition without serving the exact same dessert I made last year.

My grandmother brought this warm dish to every holiday dinner, and it completely changed how I look at root vegetables. Cooking sweet potatoes with a Japanese twist showed me how naturally rich they get in fancy bakes. Roasted sweet potato puree blends into a silky egg custard that gets torched with a crackly sugar lid. You get that satisfying spoon-crack topping and a cool center that turns a basic yam into a special treat.

I was doubtful about putting mashed yams into chocolate batter until I tasted these fudgy squares straight from the pan. Roasted sweet potato puree mixes with cocoa powder to build a dense, dark texture without extra butter. They bake up rich and chewy, giving you a deep chocolate fix no one will guess started with a root veggie.

Freeing up oven space on Thanksgiving used to feel impossible until I made dessert directly inside my slow cooker. Canned cinnamon rolls toss with spiced apple pie filling and cook low and slow until puffy and warm. It fills the whole house with the smell of sweet cinnamon apples while saving your oven racks for the turkey.
