A nationwide recall has been issued for nearly 24,000 pounds of sausage products following multiple consumer complaints about pieces of plastic found inside the food. The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), which warned that the affected sausages could pose a choking or injury risk.

The recalled products include several varieties of ready-to-eat sausage that were distributed to retailers across the country. The items were produced on specific dates earlier this year and packaged under well-known brand names. Each recalled package includes an establishment number printed inside the USDA inspection mark.
According to FSIS, the recall was initiated after consumers reported finding small fragments of plastic embedded in the sausage. While no injuries or illnesses have been confirmed, officials urge anyone who purchased the products to check their refrigerators and freezers immediately. The contaminated sausages should not be eaten under any circumstances.

Consumers are advised to throw away the affected packages or return them to the store for a refund. Even a small piece of plastic can cause choking or internal injury, especially for children or older adults. Food safety experts stress that contamination can happen during processing when packaging materials or machinery parts come into contact with food.
FSIS is working closely with the manufacturer to identify how the plastic fragments entered the production line and to prevent similar incidents in the future. Retailers have also been asked to remove all affected products from their shelves.
Customers can find detailed recall information, including product codes and lot numbers, on the FSIS website. Anyone who believes they may have been injured after eating the recalled sausage should contact a healthcare provider.
When it comes to food safety, it is always better to err on the side of caution. Checking your refrigerator today could prevent a serious problem later.
