Crispy baked pepperoni pizza bagels brushed with garlic butter, topped with marinara, melty mozzarella, and Parmesan. A quick 15-minute pizza fix.

I'll take pizza in any form, and these baked homemade pepperoni pizza bagels are one of my recent additions to my whole pizza recipe collection. I have homemade pepperoni pizza rolls, garlic butter pepperoni pizza muffins, and a cast iron deep dish pepperoni pizza, but this bagel version is quickly stealing hearts at home.
The reason these taste better than just throwing sauce and cheese on a bagel is the garlic butter barrier that gets brushed on first. Without it, the marinara soaks straight into the bread and turns the whole thing soggy instead of crispy, which I learned when I skipped that step once to save time and ended up with limp, wet bagel halves that nobody wanted to eat.
The sauce needs to be applied lightly, or it overwhelms the bagel and makes everything soft instead of getting those crispy edges that make these worth making. Thicker pizza sauce works better than marinara because it has less water content and won't seep into the bread as quickly. The pepperoni needs to go on top of the cheese instead of under it, or it steams and stays floppy instead of crisping up slightly in the oven, which is the whole point of baking these.
The shredded mozzarella gives you that stretchy, melty finish, and the grated Parmesan helps the tops brown beautifully. Mixing Italian seasoning into the garlic butter and sprinkling more on top makes these taste more like garlic bread pizza instead of just bagels with toppings.
My kids love how these are ready in about 15 minutes, and I like how I can portion them easily based on how many people I'm feeding. Each bagel makes two halves, so 3 bagels feed 3 people, 4 bagels feed 4, and so on. They've become our go-to for quick lunches and after-school snacks, and they're already competing with my other pizza recipes for the top spot.

Ingredients

You'll be needing plain bagels as the base because they let the sauce, cheese, and seasonings shine, but everything bagels or cheese bagels work if you want more flavor built into the crust. Slicing and lightly toasting them before adding toppings helps prevent a soggy center and keeps the bottoms crisp.
Marinara sauce is essential, but use it lightly because too much makes the bagels soft instead of crisp. A thicker-style pizza sauce works well if you want a more concentrated flavor.
Pepperoni slices add classic pizza taste and crisp slightly in the oven, especially when placed on top of the cheese. Shredded mozzarella gives that stretchy, melty finish, while grated Parmesan adds a sharper edge and helps the tops brown.
Melted butter mixed with garlic powder and Italian seasoning, brushed over the bagels, adds extra flavor to the crust and makes them taste more like garlic bread pizza instead of just bagels with toppings. Fresh parsley is optional for garnish, but it adds a pop of color and freshness.

Make the Garlic Butter

In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the garlic powder and ¼ teaspoon of the Italian seasoning until fully combined. This mixture will add flavor directly to the bagels and help them brown in the oven.
Assemble the Bagels

Bake

Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the edges of the bagels are lightly toasted.
If you want a more golden top, switch the oven to broil for about 30 seconds at the end. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Cool and Serve

Remove the pizza bagels from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, then serve warm.
Storage

Let the pizza bagels cool completely before storing. Place leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. To reheat, bake in a 375°F oven or air fryer for 4–6 minutes until heated through and crisp again. Avoid microwaving if possible, as it can make the bagels soft instead of crisp.
Top Tips for Baked Homemade Pepperoni Pizza Bagels
Use a sauce you already like: Since there are only a few ingredients, the marinara really stands out. A thicker sauce works best and keeps the bagels from getting too soft.
Plan the bagel count: Use 3 bagels if serving 3 people or 4 bagels if serving 4. Each bagel makes two halves, which helps you portion easily.
Don’t skip the garlic butter: Brushing the cut sides with seasoned butter adds flavor and creates a barrier so the sauce doesn’t soak straight into the bread.
