It's time to treat yourself and the family to delicious ground beef nachos in the oven! This easy nachos recipe features layers of cheese, refried beans, and fresh toppings. Perfect for sharing!

A hand reaches for beef nachos in the oven on a baking sheet. The nachos are topped with ground meat, melted cheese, kidney beans, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, and chopped green onions. The background is a light marble surface.

When I think of comfort food that brings the whole family together, beef nachos baked in the oven come to mind. Crispy tortilla chips layered with seasoned beef, melted cheese, and colorful toppings—it's a classic that makes my mouth water.

The combination of hearty flavors and crunchy chips makes this a meal no one can complain about. Picture everyone gathered around the table, hands reaching for chips loaded with savory beef and gooey cheese, conversations flowing and laughter filling the room.

What I particularly like about nachos is that is is more than just another bland dinner.  Its an experience, maybe a little bit messy with grease dripping down everyone elbows, but it brings out giggles and lights up faces all around the table.  There's something wonderfully bonding about sharing food, passing toppings, and sharing that "just one more bite" moment.

A rectangular metal tray of oven-baked beef nachos awaits, brimming with savory ground meat, melted cheese, sliced jalapeños, kidney beans, dollops of sour cream, and a sprinkle of chopped green onions. The enticing dish rests on a light-colored surface, ready to delight your taste buds.

And as a busy mother, what sets this recipe apart is how little work it requires on my part. With just a handful of simple ingredients and a few steps, you’ll have a tray of nachos and you can kick back and relax the rest of the evening. It’s a lifesaver for busy weeknights or spontaneous gatherings.

When I first moved to Canada, I started making nachos for Friday movie nights or when friends or extended family dropped by unexpectedly. The smell of beef sizzling in the pan and the sight of melted cheese bubbling in the oven instantly brings back memories of those carefree evenings. I’ve carried that tradition forward, making sure my own family gets to share in those comforting, delicious moments.

It's a household favorite for Cinco de Mayo, especially when served with a portion of my 7 layer dip. And of course, extra tortilla chips for all that sauce.

Directions to make Nachos in the Oven

Prepare the Nacho Seasoning Blend

A hand holds a spoon stirring a small white bowl containing a red-brown spice mix, perfect for seasoning beef nachos in the oven. The bowl rests on a gray marble surface, ready to elevate your dish with vibrant flavors.

Combine the your homemade taco spices in a bowl. Add a little bit of water to combine it.

Prepare the Beef

A frying pan containing cooked ground beef with a wooden spatula rests on a marbled countertop, ready for beef nachos in the oven. Nearby are small bowls holding red kidney beans, tomato sauce, and ground spices.
A person adds tomato sauce into a pan with ground meat, kidney beans, and diced tomatoes, creating a delicious topping for beef nachos in the oven. A wooden spoon rests in the pan, which sits elegantly on a marble countertop.

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onions until the beef is browned and the onions are soft. Drain any excess grease and stir in your favorite taco seasoning with a splash of water. Let it simmer until the flavors meld together.

Assemble the Nachos

Two hands are arranging triangular tortilla chips on an old, rectangular metal baking tray, preparing for beef nachos in the oven. The tray is set on a gray marble countertop, and the chips are scattered unevenly across it.
A hand uses a spoon to spread a savory blend of cooked beef, beans, and tomatoes over tortilla chips on a baking tray. The scene is set on a marbled countertop, showcasing the rustic charm of preparing beef nachos in the oven.
A person's hand sprinkles shredded cheese over beef nachos on a baking tray. The nachos, topped with flavorful ground meat and kidney beans, are ready for the oven. Another bowl with cheese is partially visible on the marble countertop.

Preheat oven to 375°F. On a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spread a generous layer of tortilla chips. Sprinkle half of the grated cheese over the chips, then layer on the seasoned beef, black beans, bell peppers, and jalapeños (if using) in the sheet pan. Top with the remaining cheese.

Bake in the Oven

Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the nacho cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve

A tray of beef nachos fresh from the oven is topped with melted cheese, ground meat, beans, sliced jalapeños, and sour cream. A hand eagerly reaches in to take a chip from the tempting display on a light-colored surface.

Remove the nachos from the oven and immediately top with dollops of sour cream, spoonfuls of salsa, and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro. Serve hot and watch everyone dig in.

Top Tips for Homemade Nachos

  • Cheese Distribution: Layering cheese both under and on top of the toppings ensures every bite is cheesy.
  • Crispier Chips: Toast the tortilla chips in the oven for a few minutes before adding the toppings.
  • Customizable: Let everyone build their own section with preferred toppings.
  • Serving Tip: Use parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Storage Instructions

If you have leftovers (a rare occurrence), store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. Reheat beef nachos in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to restore some of the crispness. Keep in mind that nachos are best enjoyed fresh.
